Assistive Technology Collection Expands with New Project

10 Nov in Spotlight, assistive technology, new, projects, workshops

Atomic Learning recently added new content to the online professional development suite which includes a new assistive technology project called “Name Activity – Overlay Maker 3”.

The Assistive Tech collection has also grown to include Stages Assessment Software – Stage 6 tutorials. The expanded library further supports the Accessible Instruction Spotlight which helps educators understand the requirements to provide accessible materials and assistive technology under IDEA, understand how to meet those requirements as it relates to classroom materials, practice creating documents and forms that are accessible to students using assistive technology, and build awareness of the barriers assistive technology can help students overcome.

In honor of National Disability Awareness month, the Accessibility: It IS Important workshop is available for free through the end of November. Learn more about the importance of creating accessible instruction materials and join Atomic Learning as we take the Accessible Instruction Pledge.

A brief description of the new Assistive Tech additions follows.

Stages Assessment Software – Stage 6
Stages is a seven-level developmental framework that describes a learner's cognitive and language abilities. The Stages framework gives parents, educators and clinicians a common language for reviewing learner progress. Learn all about Stage 6 in this thorough online tutorial series.

Name Activity – Overlay Maker 3 (PC)
In this activity, you will create an overlay using Overlay Maker® 3 to help teach students the letters in their name. It is a good alternate activity for students with physical impairments to use if they are unable to write the letters in their name. This activity works best when it is paired with a talking word processor, such as IntelliTalk, Write:OutLoud®, or ReadPlease®. Once your overlay is made you can modify it so that the student is working on his/her phone number or address.

Other software featured in the new content on the Atomic Learning site includes Word 2011 – Advanced, Access 2010 – Advanced as well as InDesign CS5 – Advanced and Premiere Elements 9.
