Summer Professional Development Series: Classroom Projects

18 Jun in Summer PD

For this edition of Summer PD Tips, I asked my friend, Kim, a second grade teacher, what she would most like to learn about this summer. When I initially asked the question, it was "what application would you like to learn more about?" She couldn't come up with an answer, because she really didn't care what technology was going to be used, she was focused on the end result: using technology to teach a standard.

I am guessing a lot of educators feel like Kim. For you, Atomic Learning offers an easy way to search for classroom projects that integrate both the standards and technology easily. Simple browse by standards & subject at our website. The projects you find will include an example project, a project overview for teachers, and step-by-step instructions for students to create the project.

Looking for an example? The following is a Common Core Mathematics standard:

CCSS.Math.Cont.2.MD.C.8 Solve word problems involving dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, using $ and ¢ symbols appropriately.

Through the search, you will find several projects to meet this standard. Once you select the project you are interested in, you are ready to go. If you can't find what you are looking for, most projects can be modified to suit your needs. The technology doesn't need to change, just the content that suits the needs of your class.
