Don't Let Plagiarism Plague Your Reputation -- or Your Students'

Do your students wonder why they have to cite their sources in research? In recent years, plagiarism has tarnished the reputation of several journalists and scholars. Most recently, Jane Goodall has been caught in a citation quandary. Goodhall is perhaps one of the most recognizable anthropologists in the world based on her ongoing study of chimpanzees and her focus on conservation and protecting wildlife. 
 
As technology moves forward, we are inundated with data and informational resources. Ensuring proper citation is important for everyone--from students to renowned professors. Failing to properly note sources is a blemish that no one wants to be associated with.

If you’re like me, you remember pulling out dusty journals from the library in your high school or college to write research papers. Today, students have the internet, making the media center an even larger resource than ever before. A recent article on edudemic.com listed the 10 most popular writing resources being used by students. While some of these sites are a great place to start researching a topic, few should be taken as valid sources; and some outright promote plagiarism.
